Job rotation is one of the corner-stones of management development at ExxonMobil. The duration of each job varies from one to three years and depends on the complexity of the job and performance. The job rotation program is designed to expose employees to different environments (different departments/locations/teams) and different type of jobs in order to develop business knowledge and a broad palette of skills.
There are two types of starting positions, depending on your educational background. Engineers start at the sites, in a process environment and become technical owner of a unit or a part of the technical equipment. Graduates with master in technology management, finance, business administration, industrial engineering start in the BAP position, which stands for Business Analysis and Planning. This position covers positions as business analyst, pricing analyst, cost analyst, financial reporting, logistics, etc. The goal of each starting position is that the trainee gets to know the business and the company while he/she grows in analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills.
ExxonMobil gives real meaning to the term 'training on the job'. It is the quickest way to learn. Our company culture is open and informal: if you have a question your co-workers will be happy to help anytime. During your whole career you will encounter three forms of training. First, there is the general formative training, such as introductory courses for new employees. These trainings are good networking opportunities. Second there is a training that focuses on your personal skills, such as presentation, communication and persuasion skills. And finally, there is (technical) a training supporting your knowledge required for your daily work.
