Junior IP Counsel - Patent Attorney
Your challenge
As a Junior IP Counsel - Patent Attorney within Philips Intellectual Property and Standards, you will be involved in all aspects of IP Portfolio Management, so as to turn ideas into IP assets that support the growth, profitability and competitiveness of Philips’ businesses. You will study to become a qualified Patent Attorney and benefit from ‘learning on the job’, as well as receiving mentoring and training.
Your responsibilities
As a Junior IP Counsel in IP&S you will operate as a strategic advisor in IP matters to Philips’ business and research organizations. Including, building the IP portfolio, providing optimal protection to the business, managing the creation of such an IP portfolio and contributing value to Philips’ businesses by capturing value from that portfolio. You will build and implement business cases for exploiting parts of the IP portfolio through negotiating licensing and other commercial IP-based deals. You also manage third-party IP risks, and when needed, seek to get access to third-party IP at the lowest cost possible for Philips’ products and services. You also handle all IP matters in a wide range of collaborations with third parties. Although you typically operate within a particular Philips business sector (Healthcare, Consumer Lifestyle, Lighting, Innovation Group & Services or Philips Group Licensing), your expertise is also leveraged across the entire IP&S team.

A Graduate with:
• A Technical Master’s or PHD degree in e.g. physics, electronics, mechanical engineering software or lighting.
• A genuine interest in Intellectual Property and dedication to become a qualified Patent Attorney
• Strong professional drive
• Excellent Analytical and Intellectual capabilities
• Excellent relationship building, influencing and negotiating abilities
• The confidence and communications skills to operate at all levels both internally and externally
• Fluency in English

• if you pass the pre-selection round you will be asked to make an online ability test;
• if you achieve the required score on this test, you will be invited for face-to-face interviews beginning of August with one of our recruiters;
• if you pass this interview, you will be invited for a follow-up interview with a line manager. These interviews will take place in week 34 and 35;
• the most suitable candidates will be invited to the Business Challenge Event in the Netherlands, to be scheduled 18th of September 2014. During the event you will spend 1 day with similar minded graduates, working on a range of highly challenging exercises in a number of business-related scenarios. This is the final step in the selection process.
