Deadline: 01-02-2022 12:00:00

Now you can shape the path towards fossil free living. We’re searching for 20 talented individuals to join us on our journey towards fossil free living. Individuals that challenge the way we think, lead us down new paths and contribute to solving the biggest challenge of humankind – climate change. Is this you?

Become one of our 20 International Trainees at Vattenfall. Each of the trainee positions is unique, linked to a department within a specific business area and a working location. This means that each position has its own specific responsibilities, challenges and matching profile.

Next to your personal development in this unique position you will be enjoying one year of all we have to offer. Your trainee year will be filled with meet-ups with your international trainee team with likeminded individuals. You will be meeting up virtually to work on assignments and live during four seminar weeks where you will be visiting our power plants and growing your superpowers with a variety of trainings.

Your role as a Trainee – Project Engineer Solar PV

Within the Business Unit Solar and Batteries, we develop, build and operate large-scale Solar PV systems, contributing to Vattenfall’s vision of becoming fossil-free within one generation. We want to grow big in our focus countries Germany and The Netherlands with mostly subsidy-free solar projects. As part of the Solar Engineering team, you are responsible to handle all engineering tasks in a PV project – from early concept design through construction to commissioning.

Your daily activities:

  • You work closely with the Development team to find the best and most economic design – balancing limitations from permits and landscaping architects with technical and economic requirements to make our projects viable.
  • You create the concept design, what we call “Basis of Design”. Helios3D and PVSyst are the tools we use. You adapt our set of technical requirements to a given project, an important part of our requirements specification to tender projects for our EPC partners.
  • In the selection process for the right construction partner, you are the main technical interface and are responsible for the technical evaluation of the bids.
  • During the construction phase, you work closely with our teams on site, you approve all engineering documents and supervise the quality of construction from an engineering point of view, with site visits typically once a week during the “hot phase”.
  • You supervise the commissioning process and work closely with external technical advisors.
  • With your growing expertise, you share more and more your knowledge in your field of expertise with the whole engineering team and all our Business Unit.
  • Even if that is not the most favourable part of our daily work, you see yourself in iterating and improving design work for days in front of your computer from time to time. The best designs help us to minimize levelized cost of energy.
Who are you?

Whether you want a climate smarter career as an energy specialist, visionary manager or inspirational project lead in the energy sector, we offer you these possibilities within the Trainee Programme.

As a Trainee – Project Engineer Solar PV you recognize yourself in the following:

  • You have recently graduated with a top-score Master’s degree in an engineering discipline related to Solar PV – Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy, or similar
  • From your studies, you have a good understanding of a PV system.
  • You are eager to learn further in your field of expertise; learning from colleagues and sharing your knowledge makes you happy.
  • Establishing personal networks is easy for you; you can communicate efficiently with different personalities. In our highly inter-disciplinary organisation, you can listen to others, but also make your point clear.

You are our ideal trainee if you are a recent graduate with an academic degree or you graduate before September 2022. You are fluent in English. Skills in other world languages can be a merit. You are willing to relocate for possible assignments throughout the organization. And of course, you identify yourself with our principles: active, open, positive and safe.
